RAM FAIR.
(Per United Puess Association.) MASTERTON, February 16. The Masterton Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s annual ram fair was opened at the Solway showgrounds today, when flock and stud Romneys were submitted to a very large of buyers, representative of every breeding centre of the Dominion. While the sensational prices of last month’s sale at Solway were not reached, there was a firm demand for studs, with flock rams inclined to drag. Though there were many passings, and sheep at the tail end were bought cheaply, buyers were prepared to go to good prices to purchase the animals they required. The market for studs was topped by Mr H. Gorringe Young, a Masterton breeder, who sold a ram to Mr C. R. G. Hewitt, of Martinborough, for 75gns. Mr Gorringe’s offering of five averaged 56gns. Messrs M. Perry and Son, of Penrose, secured the second highest price of 70gns for a ram, also purchased by Mr Hewitt. These vendors sold four rams for an average of 45|gns. Another successful breeder was Mr A. P. Southey, of Mastprton, who sold three rams at an average price of 25gns, the best price being 4ogns. The market for flock sheep was topped by Mr D. R. Daysh, of Clareville, who sold two rams at IBgns each, his whole consignment of 19 averaging th e Very satisfactory figure of 13gns. Messrs M. Perry and Sons’ first prize pen at the show realised 16?ns, while the next best { prices were:— ifegns by the Waeland ; Estate, Masterton; 14igus by Mr F. E. Dorset, Opaki; and 14gns by Messrs Blatchford Bros,, Rangituroan. The sale will be concluded to-morrow with Lincolns, Sonthdowns, Corriedales, anj Border; Lcicestera. I
