WELLINGTON WOOL SALE.

SPIRITED COMPETITION. PRICES SHOW FURTHER INCREASE (Special xo Dailt Times.) WELLINGTON, February 16. The fourth wool sale of the season to be held in Wellington opened at the Town Hall to-night. From the very commencement of the sale competition was spirited for every lot, a great deal of the bidding coming from Continental operators, while Bradford_ America kept these latter up to their limits. Fine wools wore in particularly good demand, and prices were occasionally 2d per lb in advance of those ruling at this centre last month. As is usual with high markets, there wa s a certain amount of irregularity, but all wools, felt the influence of the better demand, and prices for the lower grades were Id, and Eomoutlines even more, dearer than Igst month. The feature of the sale was the keen competition from France for lambs’ wool and skirtings, very little of which could be purchased by Dominion scourers on account of the high limits of these foreign operators. The offering, as compared with the usual display in February, was above the average, -some verv fine parcels being included in the various catalogues. The catalogue to bo submitted at the present sale comprises 27,134 bales, and of this offering 10,134 bales were disposed of to-night, leaving some 17.000 bales to be offered to-morrow. As practically every lot is expected to be cleared under the hammer, something like £700.000 will be distributed to growers in the Wellington province on prompt date, 14 days hence. There was practically a fu 1 ! bench of buyers. Those present included the Prime Minister (Mr J. G. Coates) and Mrs Coates, Mr A, D. M‘Leod (Minister of Lands), and Mr K. S. "Williams (Minister of Public Works).
