THE PRICE OF MILK.
SEVENPENCE A QUART IN AUCKLAND. FURTHER increase IMPEOB ABLE. (Special to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, February 10. The fears of th e public that the price of milk in Auckland is likely to be increased from 7d a quart, and that ‘ rationing ” is threatened, on account of the prolonged dry spell, have been allayed by a statement received from an authoritative source this morning. “No decision has been made in the direction of further increasing the price of milk,” stated . the informant. “Of course, the position is that we do not know what the future holds. The costs of production have increased abnormally owing to the extremely dry weather, and there is hardly a blade of grass about. This has necessitated th e use of concentrated foods by the farming community, and the prices of these have naturally increased with the increased demand for them. For the present, however, milk remains at the same price, and, furthermore, there are sufficient supplies to fulfil the requirements so far as consumption is concerned in Auckland city.” “ You can say definitely,” he added, “ that it would be only as a last resort that any further increase to the public would be made.”
