SPEEDING IN THE STREETS.
TO THE EDITOR. S IE ,—In your issue of February 6 appeared a letter with reference to speeding in the streets, in which it was stated that the licensed “ road hog ’’ comes first and the pedestrian does not matter, I can quite endorse everv word of what “ Householder ” wrote. Wherever a function is held, you will always find the “road hog” nosing his way through the crowd, much to the annoyance of women and children. I must give the inspectors great credit for the good work thov have done in keeping down speeding, ■ but they cannot be everywhere, and well the “ road hog ” knows this. Last Sunday I went out to St. Clair and on coming back I took notice of the crowds of motor cars that set out to race the tramcars, which they did with the greatest of ease. If this dangerous practise is not stopped there will be a serious accident sooner or later, for the “ road hog ” seems to delight in racing the tramcars, no matter what happens. I hope every borough and county from Auckland to Bluff will take drastic action against the “ road hog,” as something will have to be done and the sooner the better. The “ road hog ” is a nuisance to every town he rides through as well as to the place in which he lives.—l am, etc., Householder No. 2. Dunedin, February 9.
