SEVENOAKSS DISASTER

Sir John Pringle’s report to the Ministry of Transport on the Sevenoaks railway disaster finds that the condition of the road in respect to foundation and maintenance was the initial cause of the rolling motion of the engine which caused the derailment. In August last a train which was travelling from London to Deal jumped the line at Riverhead bridge, a mile from Sevenoaks. Eleven people were killed and 20 spriously injured. The train was moving at the rate of 60 miles an hour at the time of accident.
