TOURING BOWLERS.

FAREWELL BY DUNEDIN CLUB. Five members of the Dunedin Bowling Club will leave next week to join the Now Zealand bowlers who are shortly to tour the Homeland, and a rousing send-off was accorded them last evening, when a largely-attended complimentary smoke concert was held in the pavilion. Mr J. C. Stephens (president) occupied the chair, and the guests of honour were Messrs W. Smith, J. B, Frame, J. Pietersen, J. Hutchinson. Mr H. D. Siedeberg, the fifth member of the touring party, was unavoidably absent. The toast following “ The King ” was that of “ The Dominion Council of the New Zealand Bowling Association.” It was proposed by Mr J. H. Wilkinson, who referred to the good work done by the council and the sincerity of the interest and the assistance its members gave to the game. In speaking of the forthcoming tour, he dwelt on the excellent results of previous visits to the Homeland made by representatives of the world of sport, apart from their association with the playing fields. He felt sure that the visit of Dominion bowlers would also be productive of excellent results, and that it would do much to strengthen the ties that bound the Dominion to the Mother Country. In reply, Mr J. J. Marlow, as a representative of the council, referred to the efforts made by that body on behalf of bowlers throughout the Dominion. He wished the guests every success during their tour.

The Chairman proposed the toast of “ Our Guests,” and referred to the excellent opportunities the members of the party would doubtless embrace—opportunities for seeing the famous historical sights of England and Scotland. He dwelt, in happy vein, on the probable results of their tour, and stressed the temporary loss that the club would suffer by the departure of such strong players At the conclusion of his speech he presented each of the guests with a neat greenstone tiki in the form of a watch charm.

Replies to the toast were made by Messrs Smith and Frame.

The final toast of the evening was “ The Dunedin Bowling Centre,” proposed by Mr E. A. Rosevear and responded to by Mr A. W. Martin.

During the evening an excellent musical programme was provided by club members.
