BETTING TRANSACTIONS.

SEQUEL TO ELTHAM RAID. HEAVY PENALTIES IMPOSED. (Per United Press Association.) ELTHAM, February 1. Six defendants in the Eltham Court on Tuesday were fined sums ranging from £& to £7 10s for betting with bookmakers. The cases were the result of raids made by the police on December 31 on the premises of two local shopkeepers, who subsequently pleaded guilty, and were fined £75 and £SO respectively on four charges, including bookmaking, publishing double charts (two), and betting on the result of a race dependent’on totalisator odds.
