DAYLIGHT SAVING.
FARMERS REMAIN UNCONVERTED. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, February 1. Daylight saving had few friends at a meeting of the Dominion executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union to-day, one delegate stating that it was a ” Bill of abomination,” while another declared that its introduction was “ jeopardising the lives of the women and children on the farms.” ” It is not working out satisfactorily,” said the President (Mr W. J. Poison), “ so far as the producers are concerned. The worst effect of It is on our women, who are suffering as'a result of daylight saving. It is also having a serious effect on the children, who are up earlier but are having fewer hours of sleep. I have met many who originally favoured daylight saving, but after an experience of it they are opposed to it. We should take steps to have it repealed. It is a hardship not only to the men but to tho women on the farms.” It was decided to prepare a petition protesting against daylight saving for circulation among farmers.
