CAMPAIGN AGAINST CRIME. GANGS SHOW RESENTMENT. PROMISCUOUS BOMB THROWING. (Pres« Association—By Telegraph—Copyright ) WASHINGTON, January 26. A Chicago message says that, following the City Administration’s attempts to curb crime, and Mayor Thompson’s declaration that gang terrorism oust end, gangsters retaliated, and bombed the Monies of Mr Thompson’s closest associates. The first intended victim was Mr Charles Fitzmorris, city controller, and second in office to the mayor. The front of his home was torn away by a dynamite bomb thrown from an automobile. Mr Fitz morris, with his wife, son, and maid, were in the house, but were uninjured. A second bomb was aimed either t Mr William Reid, powerful in Mr Thompson’s political organisation, or at Mr John Allen, recently candidate for alderman. It exploded between their homes, but did little damage. The police 'immediately started an investigation, but are reticent about the details. Mr Thompson’s home is constantly under guard.—A. and N.Z.
