north island championship. (Per United Press Association.) WANGANUI, January 27. The North Island croquet champiou"hips wore continued to-day, when the visiting English players joined in the matches. A notable win.was that of Mrs E A. Smith (Christchurch), who defeated Miss R. Sheet, present holder of the North Island championship. Colonel Du Pre gave a brilliant exhibition of croquet, defeating Mrs W. J. Kirk in two straight games. Sir Francis Wemyss, after a somewhat indifferent opening, produced good form, and beat Colonel Savile, Auckland. Ross beat Mrs C. Watkins, but both gave more chances than usual. The tost match against England will be played on Friday next.
