OTAGO YACHT ASSOCIATION.
SANDERS CUP MATTERS. A meeting of the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Association was held last evening. Mr J. T. Paul presided, and the following delegates were present:-' Messrs E. T. Holier, G. F. Bewley, F. Goodwin, T. Brookes, A. D.As.her, _iU Camp, T. Anderson, and W. 0. Martin. The Secretary or the Stewart Island Yacht and Motor Boat Club wrote stating that the Dominion conference of dele* gates would be held on Thursday evening, February 16. The first race for the San* ders Cup would be sailed on Friday, February 17. . The Chairman said he had interviewed Mr B. S. Irwin in regard to the loan of Kia Ora’s sails and gear for Eileen. Mr Irwin said he would be only too pleased to lend the sails and ail necessary gear, and it was his desire to give every assistance to Otago in its efforts to win the Sanders Cup.—lt was decided to thank Mr Irwin for his kind offer. The Chairman, in referring to the question of accommodation for the Otago visitors to Stewart Island, said it would be necessary to make immediate arrangements for the departure of the crew. It would be necessary for the crew to arrive at Stewart Island two or three days before the contest in order that it might have at least two clear days for practice. If arrangements could be made there would be no necessity for the association to hold another meeting before the contest commenced.—lt was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the president and the secretary. Arrangements were made to have Eileen polished and crated in the shed at Maia. The boat will not be in the water until the Tuesday before departure for Stewart Island. Mr B. H. Nees will supervise the crating of Eileen. Messrs J. T. Paul and H. Camp were appointed Otago’s delegates to the Dominion Yachting Conference to bo held at Stewart Island on Thursday, February 16.—Mr Asher said it was necessary to have an experienced man from Otago as one of the judges in this year’s contest, and Mr Camp was the right man. Mr Asher also said that the association was fortunate in having such an experienced boating man as Mr Paul, and the association could rest assured that ha would look after Otago’s interests at the conference. It was decided to write and ask Mr C. M. French to have as much practice with the crew of Eileen as possible during the next two weeks. GENERAL. The Secretary of the Dunedin Merchants’ Association forwarded a cheque for £5 5s as a contribution to the Sanders Cup fund- —Received with thanks. The programme submitted by the St. Leonards Regatta Committee for the regatta to be held at St. Leonards on February 4 was approved. The Secretary of the Macandrew’s Bay Regatta Committee wrote stating that the committee recommended that in future the owners of outboard motor boards be strictly compelled to use mufflers for the exhausts on engines when not competing in a race. It had been proved lately, particularly qt the Macandrew’s Bay regatta held on December 26 last, that outboard motor boats caused much annoyance owing to the noise caused by the exhausts. The question of non-competing motor boats being on the course while a race was in progress had also been adversely commented on, and if was hoped that the association would give the committee assistance by doing everything in its power to dispense with the nuisances. —The Chairman said it was a reasonable request that outboard motor boats use mufflers when not racings—lt was decided to forward a letter to the various clubs asking that the request of the Macanclrew’s Bay Regatta Committee be given every consideration, and that motor boat owners also be asked to keep clear of courses when not taking nart in races.
