RATANA CELEBRATION.
LARGE GATHERING OF M&0BB. STIRRING APPEAL BY LEADER. (Special to Daily Times.) WANGANUI, January Rat-ana’s fifty-fifth birthday and fee dedication of the Ratana Temple -were celebrated conjointly to-day, 3000 Maoris being present from all parts of the Dominion. Among the distinguished guests was Bishop Juji Nakada, of Japan, who prayed for the continued success of the Ratana movement. Katana addressed a large assemblage, his speech occupying over an hour. Ho deplored the attacks made upon him and ,his work by critics occupying important positions in the Church. However, ha had his own message to deliver, and as long as he, pleased the Master that was all that concerned him. Addressing Ms ministers especially, he insisted that a3l prayers should be commenced in the name of Jesus Christ. He made a stirring appeal to be true to their faith and belief in the Holy Trinity and the holy angels. The singing of the choir was a great feature of the gathering. Fully 3000 Maoris, old and young, subsequently sat down to Katana’s birthday tea party.
