CABLES AND WIRELESS

THE ELEMENT OF COMPETITION. MAINTENANCE DESIRABLE. (Frees Association-By Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, January 23. The maintenance of some element oi the wireless and cable competition m the interest alike of the press and the public is emphasised in the Empire Press Unions memorandum to the Wireless Conference. It further points out that in the absence of competition—the possibility of which is now apparent—and of scientific research, there will be stagnation in commercial enterprise, as shown by the cable administrations before wireless came m. It is essential in the interests of international understanding and co-operation that there must be the quickest and cheapest press facilities, with due regard to the possibility of future reductions in press rates The memorandum finally quotes the Geneva Press Conference’s resolution advocating the maximum of competition. —A. and N.Z. and Sydney Sun Cable.
