BEN HUR.
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s famous picture, “ Ben Hur,” will commence its Dunedin season at both the Empire and the Octagon Theatre at the matinee on Friday, February 3. This picture has a wonderful record. It has just finished a run of 49 weeks at the Tivoli Theatre, London, where certified figures assert that the film was seen by 1,281,560 people. At Christchurch a remarkable record was achieved, the season extending to five weeks. The box plans at Auckland, where the film is now showing, are reported to be fully booked for nights ahead. A Christchurch contemporary proclaims “ Ben Hur ” to be “ an amazing work that is leagues in advance of any motion picture previously seen in Christ church.” The Auckland Sun classes “ Ben Hur ” as being ” something more than a production—it is a world’s challenge to the all producers.” Particulars of the box plans will be found in the advertising columns.
