CROMWELL NOTE.

(From Opr Own Correspondent.) CROMWELL, January 24. Late last evening there was a welcome break, if brief, in the period of prolonged drought. At 9 p.m. rain commenced to fall. It continued, with a few broken periods, until early this morning, but there is again a return to hot weather. The fall experienced will tend to freshen the pastures, but will not suffice to appreciably replenish the many sources which serve the irrigated lands. At present a further fall is not imminent.
