HONESTY.

Many amateur gardeners grow this oldfashioned plant for the pearly led vessels, which make such an attractive winter decoration, rather than for the purpose or white flowers which brignte.i up odd corners. The flowers, especially when the two colours aro growt together, are quite effective. Being a biennial, honesty should ho sown every year; hut once it is estaofished it will nearly always produce its own seedlings in abundance. A start may be made by sowing the seed in the opring or autumn, in the former case moving the seedlings to their flawering quarters when ready. Some gardeners, however, prefer to sow the seeds where ft'- plants are to bloom, being of opinion that examples that have been transplanted will not produce such fine spikes of bloom, and the ornamental effect of the seed vessels will be correspondingly lessened.
