TERRITORIAL FORCES.
CAMP AT GORE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Some 35 officers and 000 other ranks of the Ist Battalion, Southland Regiment (territorials), will go into camp on the Gore racecourse for a week’s training. An advance party, comprising three officers, four staff sergeants-major, and 34 men has arrived to make the necessary preparations for the main body of troops, whc will arrive on Saturday. The camp will comprise all the units south of Milton, and the men will detrain at the racecourse, while the Guru units will march to the camp. The miii tary authorities are indebted to the Gore Racing Club for granting the full use of its fine grounds and all the buildings, which makes an ideal camp site. The area inside the racing circuit will be ised as a parade ground. The Gore A. uid P. Association has also granted the use of forms and tables and trestles, which will enable the men to mess in ihe spacious dining rooms beneath the grand stand, while the steward’s luncheon room will be used as an officers’ mess. During the camp the Gore (Soldiers’ Club will be open to the territorials. The work to be undertaken at the camp will be more advanced than has been he case in past years and the bulk of the time will be spent in what is included in the wide term “ field work.” Several of the adjacent farmers have granted permission Id use their properties, and this will greatly facilitate operations. The officer commanding will be Lieu-tenant-colonel J. A. Cushen, who will have with him as second in coinmand Major P. H. Morley. Lieutenant A. P. M'Cormack, N.Z.S.C., will be adjutant, Captain S J. Kelly will command Head quarters Company, Captain E. G. Pollock A Company, Captain A. C. Rowe C Company, and Lieutenant. D. Fyfe D Company. Lieutenant J. Newal! will be officer commanding the quartermaster's stores. S.S.M. J. Fitzgerald will be regimental sergeant-major, and Q.M.S. J. Lyttle will be quartermaster.' The lastnamed two are members of the N.Z.P.S. On Friday, January 27. the general officer commanding the New Zealand Military Forces, Genera] R. Young, C.M.G.. D. 5.0., will visit the camp. The Y.M.C.A. will be represented, and four padres, including the Rev. S. Bailey, C.F., and the Rev. Father Ardagh will be in camp. During the camp Mr W. D. Shelton is endeavouring to arrange concerts to entertain the men. The camp will extend to Saturday, January 28, when the men will return to their homes leaving a rearguard to clean »P- • •
