Without exception the fields have filled well, and there is every prospect o£ a successful meeting. The defection of Jewel Pointer from the Cup field has taken a little of the glamour olf the event, but the horses that stand their ground should provide a fine racing spectacle. The winner is well concealed, but the ruling favourites at present are Terence Dillon, Logan Park, and Machine Gun. A particularly pleasing feature of the card is the fact that only one of the horses nominated for the Otago Cup Handicap, for unhoppled trotters, has dropped out, and the held includes recent winners in Elzear, John Mauritius Cannonball, Trampfast, Little Logan, and Clonmel. No fewer than 20 horses have been paid up for in the tniie saddle race and, providing the track is firm, the winner will probably be required to step inside its handicap High Jinks, Locanda Child and Dawson Bingen are .n most demand with those to whom ante-post transactions appeal.
