Although the sun shone out occasionally to-day the weather for the continuation of the New Zealand Bowling Association's championship tournament was dull for the greater part of the day with a much lower temperature than on Monday. The greens were still fast, however, and all of them appear to be wearing well. Three rounds were played in the pairs competition, leaving two to bo disposed of to-morrow. No fewer than 208 pairs are taking part, and the championship has been divided into 34 sections with two sections on each green. Seventeen greens were in use to-day and the same number will be played on tomorrow. The competition is being played in sections, each pair playing five games of 21 heads each. At the conclusion of the section play ties will be played off. If two pairs tie for a section a game of 21 heads will be played, but if more than two pairs tie a section tie of 12 heads null be played, and the umpire will arrange for a draw to decide which pair is entitled to the bye. Play will then follow until the section winner is found. Where sections on tho same green are won outright, the section winners will play tho same day to find the green winner. Green winners will take part in tho post-sectional play which will be on the sudden death principle, each game to consist of 21 heads or two hours and three-quarters. The Pairs competition will be continued to-morrow. It is anticipated that the greens will be in use until about 9 p.m., as after the fourth and fifth rounds are concluded post-sectional play will' take place. A match, North Island v. South Island, will be played on President’s Day (Thursday) on the Canterbury Club’s green, toe teams in respect of which will be announced later.
