SYDNEY EXHIBITION.
SELECTING THE SITE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) SYDNEY, December 15. When the authorities come to select a site for the big Empire Exhibition in Sydney in 1931, to synchronise with the opening of tho harbour bridge, and incidentally the centenary of the Sydney Morning Herald, they will have a choice of places which will constitute almost an embarrassment of riches. The number of suburbs and districts in and round Sydney which have awakened to a realisation of the glories of their local setting for an exhibition likely to attract people from all parts of the world, is really surprising. Apparently, they feel that, like the modest violet, they have blushed unseen and unhonoured for 100 long, and that now is their chance. The latest suggested site, and ouc which at first glance, at all events, has a good deal to commend it, is on the headlands of Middle Harbour. An exhibition there would certainly command magnificent views not only of Sydney Harbour, but also of the city, and would be pleasantly accessible by water, and also by rail when the iron road is built across the harbour bridge. The bridge, (he opening of which will he celebrated at the same time, would, as the promoters of the site suggest, be not merely a side-show, but part and parcel of the great empire pageant. In the battle of exhibition sites, this sped, it can fairly be assumed, will have the strong backing of the northern suburbs.
