WANAKA NOTES. (From Our Own Correspondent.) PEMBROKE. December 27* Genuine summer weather has set in and residents and holiday-makers are taking full advantage of the long days of sunshine. Many camping parties are scattered about tho favourite resorts, and despite the apathy of the authorities wheio Lakes Hawea and Warraka are concerned, the district is attracting larger numbers annually. Serious attention is now being devoted to angling in Lake Wanaka, and various fishing • parlies have been successful this season. Trolling above Boundary Point from a small boat oquioped with an outboard engine, Mr V». Hutton and parly secured seven trout on Monday last in a few hours. All were of the rainbow variety and ranged in weight Horn 61b to 81b. Goon results are being rbt.jincd all through the district and a full measure of success has boon achieved of late by visitors as wed as by local anglers. The wedding was celebrated on Thursday in the Presbyterian Church at Pembroke, of Miss E. Bremner, of Pembroke, and Mr George Hewitt, of Dunedin. Tho ceremony was performed by the Rev. Mr Chisholm, of Cronin ell. The parents of tho bride are old and highly respected residents and many friends were present at the ceremony and wedding breakfast. Amil the best wishes of all for their future happiness, Mr and Mrs Hewitt left immediately afterwards for Queenstown, on route for their future homo in Dunedin. The break-up of the Wanaka School was celebrated by a concert given by the pupils of the school in the Pembroke Hall on Friday night of last week. The children hod been carefully trained by the teacher, Mr W. Henderson, in their various parts, and the concert proved an unqualified success. Eirh item was fully enjoyed by tile large audience, and as a result of the entertainment the funds will benefit to the extent of nearly £3O. Four rinks from tho Wanaka Bowling Chib journeyed to Bannockburn last Saturday and met defeat at tho hands of the local players. The Wanaka Club has not been long in existence, hut possesses a splendid green and its members are keen and enthusiastic players. LAWN TENNIS.
Wanaka and Lowburn lawn tennis teams met at Pembroke on Saturday last, the local players proving victorious by a fair margin. Following are the scores.
