DUNEDIN WOOL SALE

FIRST OF SEASON. LARGE ATTENDANCE OF BUYERS. PRICES VERY SATISFACTORY. The first wool sale of the season opened yesterday afton.ton in Burns Hull, when catalogues comprising 20,075 bales wore submitted by the various selling agents. Owing to the good winter experienced and the early, though wet spring, most of the wool came forward in condition that was considerably better than last year’s offering. Wool was well grown and sound, and reflected the open winter with its good and plentiful feed. There was an exceptionally full bench of buyers—several new firms operating. Bidding was brisk, tho Continent and Bradford taking tho bulk of tho offering. Prices generally wore firm at Timaru rates, good conditioned and selected lines of half bred and fine crossbred perhaps showing an appreciation, but this was for particularly wellgrown and conditioned wool. Medium nalfbreds and crossbreds did not find tho same inquiry, nor did any lines showing heavy in condition, or vegetable matter and seed. Low crossbreds and inferior wools met with a good sale and sold at satisfactory prices. Any lines of super merino wpro keenly competed for by the local mills, who took the bulk of tho offering submitted. Good clean necks and pieces were brisk of sale, the bidding being keen from Continental operators, prices generally being more satisfactory than those obtained last season. Passings were rare —growers taking full advantage of the exceptionally high prices ruling. Selling concluded at 1 a.m.
