AQUATICS.
HARBOUR REGATTAS. An attractive programme has been arranged for the regatta to be held at Macandrew’s Bay on Boxing Day (December 26). The events are as follows: —Yachts (allcomers), yachts (18ft and over 12ft 6in), 12ft 6in and under sailing dinghies, motor boats (six miles per hour and under), motor boats (over six and under nine miles), motor boats (nine and under fifteen miles per hour), speed launch championship race, outboard motor boat race, first class and second class model yachts, also rowing events —youths’ fours, maiden fore, junior fours, and senior fours. The Broad Bay Boating Club will hold its annual regatta at Broad Bay on Monday, January 2. Th e programme will con. sist of four yacht races, including a han. dicap event for Jellicoe class boats, four motor boat races, an outboard race for the championship of Otago, and a handicap event for outboard boats. There will also be a race for speed boats, rowing, swimming, and other water events. ELLIOTT CUP RACE. An attempt was made to sail the annual race for the Elliott Cup at Macandrew's Bay on Wednesday evening, but it ended in failure owing to one of the contestants capsizing. The only starters were Colleen and Betty. The weather was very boisterous, a strong south-west wind and heavy sea making conditions very trying for the youthful crews. After covering a part of the course Colleen, which was in charge of J. Ross, was struck by a very strong squall, which capsized the boat. Ross and his mate (Clark) were in the water for several minutes before being rescued by a passing boat. Several boating men who witnessed the accident from the shore lost no time in going to the assistance of the boys and the upturned boat. Some difficulty was experienced in securing Colleen owing to the heavy sea, but the rescuers from the shore eventually towed her back to her moorings. Ihe boat was not damaged. Betty did not sail round the course. Ihe North-East Haibour Boating Club Committee has decided to re-sail the race nest Wednesday ©i cuing. OTAGO YACHT CLUB. \ meeting of the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Club Committee was Held last evening, Commodore C. W. hunclstrum presiding. Sixteen new members were elected. The Secretary of the North-East Harbour Boating Club wrote stating that the club’s races this season were open to members of all clubs with the exception of the yacht races for the Strang ana Elliott Cups. „ . Officers would be appointed very shortly, and a suitable building would also be procured A strong committee had been formed, and when Captain Middleton visited Dunedin again he would call a meeting of club members to give them an opportunity of learning details of the \ letter was received from the Secretary of the Otago Centre, New Zealand Aniateur Swimming Association, stating that the harbour race for the Annette Kellerman Cup would be decided on Thursday, January 26, and the club was asked to give assistance in the way of lodging an acurate three-mile course, and to”supply a number of dinghies, and also, I launches for the purpose of following the competitors.—The Commodore said it would be impossible for the Yacht Club to log an accurate course, but the club would give every assistance bv providing dinghies and launches.
