GARDEN FETE.
On Saturday last the grounds of Islington ” the home of Mr and Mrs Todd, were the scene of a very successful garden fete held by East Taicri Lawn Tennis Club. The day was beautifully fine, and there was a large gathering of friends and visitors who generously patronised the various stalls and competitions which were set in the picturesque surroundings of the shrubbery. The Mosgiel Brass Band was in attendance. The voting peonle had a busy hour hunting butterfiys hidden in the shrubbery, the winner being Miss E. Rattray. A competition was held in connection with an ancient anplo tree, the correct guess being made by Miss Madge Miller. During the afternoon the “ grand old man of the Taieri,” Mr Henry M'Lood, who is now residing in D'lncdlu, visited the fete, renewing his old friendships. Croat interest was taken in the musical motor cars. Fourteen car? wore entoioil and circled gaily round ’o the enlivening strains of the band. The winner, after a keen fought tussle, proved to be Mis? C, Blackio. __
