A charge by Sir John Findlay, K.C., that signalling was taking place between the parties concerned in the hearing of the Wright—Morgan case caused quite a stir in the. Supreme Court in Christchnre.h on Monday afternoon. Sir John had been cross-examining the plaintiff in the cast; (Mrs Ethel Roberts), when suddenly ho drew his Honor's attention to the fact that, signalling had been taking place in court. Sir John asked that this should cease immediately. His Honor (Mr Justice Adams) said that ?uch a thing was most improper. lie had been observing the plaintiff very closely, but. had seen nothing to which exception could lie taken. If there had been any signalling it would have to cease immediatoeiy. " The signalling doe- nel come from that quarter, your Honor," said Sir John. "It is in another part of the court. I have been unable to see what is going on, but it has been reported that certain persons here are signalling. It will have to stop." "I am glad you are not accusing ine, Sir John," said 'the plaintiff. " I may have smiled at my si.-ter. Mrs Nosworthy. but 1 never made any signals. Personally, I am quire capnb'e of expressing my opinions without any signals from the back of the court." His Honor directed that the tignailing complained of should cease.
