OTAGO EARLY SETTLERS’ ASSOCIATION.

The monthly meeting of the committee of the Early Settlers’ Association was held yesterday afternoon, Mr William Nicolson (president) occupying the chair. I The following gifts were received and votes of thanks passed to the givers:— From James Dunn (Dunedin), a number of interesting photographs; Dr W. J. Will (Roslyn), copy of Dr Fulton’s “ Medical Practice,” Otago Railway Time-table, 1875. and art union ticket New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition, 1880-90; Miss Atken (on deposit), Maori adze, found at the Burning Plains, near Popotunoa, Clutha; Mr George Henry (Lawrence), two volumes ‘‘Scottish Highlands, Clans, and Regiments, 1875 ”; Mr Herbert Watts (Manngatua), dinner plate, pewter, and soda water bottle brought to Otago by her late grandparents Mr and Mrs H. F. Blatch (John Wickliffe, 1848), also school books used by her late mother on the passage of the John Wickliffe to Otago, 1848, and also during the first year of the settlement; Mrs D. M'Corkindale (Waitahuna) framed portraits of her late parents, Mr and Mrs John Drysdale, Lawrence (Mr Drysdale, Gala, 1860; Mrs Drysdale, early sixties); L. Kirkcaldy (Dunedin), framed portrait of his late mother (Mr W. C. Kirkcaldy, Dunedin, early sixties); from Mr E. Murray (Dunedin), framed portraits of the parents of her late husband. Superintendent E. Murray (Mr and Mrs R. S. Murray, Puerua, Clutha; Mr Murray, Sevilla, 1859; Mrs Murray, Lord Worsley, 1858); Mr E. Broad (Musselburgh), framed portraits of her late parents, Mr and Mrs Samuel Henry, Dunedin, late Benamy Station, Lawrence, early sixties, also framed photograph group of her husband’s late parents, Mr and Mrs Charles Broad, and members of the family, early sixties; John Kay (Ravensbourne.), halfpenny, 1848; Miss Ford (Dunedin), framed portraits of her sister, Mrs J. Murdock (nee Ford), and herself (Robert Henderson, 1858); Mrs May (High street), framed photograph of house in Hart street, Roslyn, built in 1862 for Mr W. B. Ogilvie; Mr Knox (Green Island), photograph of W. Brown, Green Island Bush (Poietiers, 1850); A. Palmer (St. Clair), two interesting framed photographs of early settlers; D. M'Quilkan (Whare Flat) and James Knox (York place), glass case, frame and vase of mottled kauri, containing model book made from same log, also turned cup, made from very old piece of kauri, all made by Mr Knox, The following deaths were reported:— Joseph E. Thomson, Dunedin, late Alexandra (84), Percursor, 1864, J. W. Joynton, Auckland (66), sixties;Mrs Annie S. Churchill, Maitland street (85), Philip Laing, 1848; William Hay, Oamaru (91), early sixties; Mr T. Meek, Oamaru (89), Daniel Rankin, 1863; Mr G. Hansen, Shotover (75), Schleswick Bride, 1868; Charles P. Raines, Invercargill (77), sixties; Mrs B. Morris, Owaka, late Otago Peninsula (71), 1858; Mrs George Galloway (Mornington (84), sixties; Mrs T. Stanley, Macraes (72), arrived 1860; Miss Isabella Morton (Pounawea, Clutha, Gala, 1830; Mrs William Smith, Myross Bush, Southland (86), Three Bells, 1858; Francis Oudaille, late Waitahuna and Lawrence (92), early sixties. The following early settlers were enrolled:—James .Dunn, Ravensbourne, Sevilla, to Blulf, 1864; Mrs D. Esther, 10 Wales street, Roslyn, William Davie, 1866; Mrs E. Swinard ( nee Harwood, Oamaru), arrived Bluff 1867; J. T. Harwood (Palmerston North), arrived Bluff 1867; Miss E. Ford (King street), Robert Henderson, 1858. Seven descendants were also enrolled.
