The handicaps usually precede the acceptances, and the former are not due until Monday. Owners should note that the acceptances now fall due on the 212nd inst. A very pleasing list of nominations was received in connection with the Wyndham Racing Club’s meeting. There should be some interesting track work at Wingatui to-morrow morning, when the local horses with engagements at the Oamaru Jockey Club’s meetirig are likely to receive their final gallops. The two principal events on the Southland Racing Club’s programme will be the Invercargill Cup of 1050sovs (including a cup valued at SOsovs, presented by Mr W F James) and the Southland Handicap of SOOsovs. Nominations are due on Friday. , , „ . According to track reports, Count Cavour has trained on a good deal since he ran at the New Zealand Cup meeting. Paperchase is reeling off some smart gallops at Riccarton, and is likely to show improved form when next seen in PU Chil'dsplay was treated to a fairly strong gallop over six furlongs last week, and without being fully, extended, ran over the distance in good time. Civility is booked to race at the Manawatu and Stratford meetings. Kiosk will have J. Barry in the saddle for the Fitzherbert Handicap to be run at the Manawatu meeting. Battle Colours has not suffered any damage by his winning efforts at the Timaru meeting, and should, in fact, he able to show improved from at the holiday meetings, / , _ „ Both Arikiwai and Stormy appear to have improved as a result of their racing at the Timaru meeting. . When Cup candidates are defeated in minor races their trainers and owners do not always weep with disappointment. David Garrick is reported to be on the improve, It is about time he fulfilled the promise he displayed as a three-year-old in the spring of his second season. The imported colt Royal Picture, who scored his first win last week, has always shown a good turn of speed on the track. Ha might have shown winning speed earlier if less exhibition had been made of it on the track. Philanderer has failed to stand a preparation, and will not be seen out at the holiday meetings. The Australian crack Rampion has so far been responsible for useful work on the track, without showing a return of unsoundness. Matty, the Martian —Nantes mare ana her colt foal by Leighton, were purchased two years ago by Mr F. Ormond for ISOgns. The foal is identical with Millais, who won the Nursery Handicap for Mr Ormond at Woodville (says “Vedette”). Millais is a smart galloper, and might easily go on and do better things. One or two of the experienced brigade who train at Greenmeadows, were on his side when he returned the good price this week, . Numerically, J. T. Jamieson will have stronger representation at the Auckland summer meeting than any othep trainer, as ho has 17 horses nominated. His entries comprise Eden Hall, Nippy, Ti Tree, Ihe Immigrant, Hivh Finance, Bold Front, Prince Humphrey, In the Shade, Patoclawn, Welcome Home, Dimmer, Look Out, Winnington, Mithra, Prince Otto, Perception, and Le Choucas. Nippy has gone amiss since being entered for the Auckland Cup and several of the leading handicaps. entries for which closed some weeks ago, but the other 16 arc all likely to race at the meeting.
