VOCATIONAL GUIDANCE.
PAMPHLET TO BE ISSUED. AVENUES OF EMPLOYMENT. (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, November 29. The Education Department has been authorised by the Minister of . Education (Mr R. A. Wright) to issue a pamphlet on vocational guidance. The Minister informed a reporter to-day that the pamphlet would be given to all Standard VI pupils, in primary schools and would contain a description of each type of postprimary school in the Dominion with an indication of the courses of instruction provided there. The pamphlet would contain also a brief description of the avenues of employment open for boys and girls after they leave school, and a clear indication of the wages paid in connection with each occupation. “The aim of the pamphlet is to enable parents and teachers first of all to direct the child’s post-primary studies so that they will be most profitable in relation to . the probable future occupation of the child," added the Minister, “ and, secondly, to give the parents and children an indication of the prospects in each occupation. The information has been compiled by an officer of the Education Department. acting in co-operation with the Labour Department. The pamphlet' does not profess to 'deal with the matter exhaustively. and will be revised from year to year. It is considered that the information will be invaluable to parents who are often very much in doubt as to what to do with their children after they' leave the primary schools”
