The Norfolk was to leave Wellington yesterday afternoon for Lyttelton and Port Chalmers, to complete discharge of Liverpool cargo. , The P. and O. liner Maloja reached rremantle from London on November 23. After calling at Adelaide and Melbourne she is scheduled to reach Sydney on December 1. Messrs Dalgety and 00. advise that the i Shaw-Savill hner Athefiio, which arrived at Auckland on Sunday evening from Liverpool berthed at the northern port at 7 a.m, yesterday. The vessel is to sail towards the end of this week for Wellington, Lyttelton and Port Chhlmers to discharge the remainder 'of her general cargo. SUSSEX AT CALCUTTA. The Union Company has been notified by cablegram that the Sussex arrived at Calcutta last Wednesday afternoon from Newcastle and Java. The vessel will load at Calcutta and leave early in December for Rangoon, to complete loading for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru, Dunedin and Bluff. lONIC PROM ENGLAND. A wire ess message received by the ShawSavill Company from the captain of the lonic states that the vessel will arrive at Wellington at daybreak on Thursday from London and Southampton. After landing passengers at the northern port the lonic will proceed to Lyttelton, Port Chalmers, and Bluff to discharge her general cargo. She is expected at this port about December 7. MAHIA’S MOVEMENTS. The Shaw, SavlU, and Albion Company advises that the Mahla Is to leave Wellington to-day for Wanganui roadstead, and Is to return thence to Wellington. The Mahla will leave Wellington on December 10 for Bluff, Lyttelton, and Port Chalmers to complete loading. The vessel will load there and complete at Singapore and Samarang for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. PAKBHA HOMEWARD BOUND. Cabled news has been received by the Shaw. Savlll, and Albion Company that the Pakeha arrived at Montevideo last Wednesday afternoon from Wellington, en route to London. The vessel sailed from Wellington on November 4, and therefore made a good run of 19 days to Montevideo. TANKERS FROM SINGAPORE. Thj motor ship Larch bank and the tanker Silver Shell are reported to have sailed from Singapore on November 21 tor New Zealand. The Larohbank Is owned by Andrews and Company. She was built at Glasgow In 1925. Her tonnage lo 5150 grogs. The Silver Shell is an American-built tanker of 5605 tons. The vessel was constructed in 1915, and she is owned by the Silver Shell Steamship Company, of New York. CITY OP KHOIS REPLACED. The local agents for the A. and A. advise that the City of Khals, which was scheduled to reach Auckland last Friday from New York, loaded for Australia instead. She was replaced by the City of Lyons, which sailed from New York on November 5 and is due at Auckland on December 8. The City of Lyons will also discharge at Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Hobart, Beauty Point, and Port Plrie. KAIKOURA PENINSULA LIGHT. A notice to mariners Issued by the Marine Department announces that as from to-day a light will be shown from Point Kean, near the eastern extremity of Kalkoura Peninsula. The light, which Is at an elevation of 134 ft, will have a visibility In clear weather of 15 miles. It will flash white with a red sector every 15 seconds, thus: Plash, one second; eclipse, 14 seconds. ; STRANDED STEAMER RIVBRINA. Advice to hand by last week’s Australian mail states that improved prospects of refloating the stranded Rlverlna at Gabo Island were reported on November 17 by Mr F. P. Hart, one of the-directors of the salvage company. There was 18ft of water under the bows, 22ft under the stern, and 12ft amidships, where a sandbank had formed. Tho position of tb ship was better than beft ’ the tackle broke some weeks ago. Her bows, at low water, were 700 ft from the shore. During the salvage operations recently the Rlverlna devloped a list to starboard of 19deg, but this was rectified. Her bows are stemming the sea, and pointing south 14deg east. TRANSPACIFIC CARGO SERVICE. The Union Company announces the following movements of vessels engaged in the transpacific cargo service: — Waltemata, from Vancouver and San Francisco, via Auckland, left Wellington on Saturday for Melbourne and Sydney to complete discharge. Wairuna arrived at Vancouver on November 13, and is expected to clear San Francisco about December 3 for Auckland, Wellington, Beauty Point, Melbourne, and SydnCHaurakl Is to leave Sydney to-day tor Vancouver and San Francisco. NEW SHAW-SAVILL MOTOR SHIPS. Specially designed for tho New Zealand cargo service, four now motor vessels for the Shaw, Savill and Albion fleet are expected to be launched within the nest six months. Two are being built on the Tyne by Swan, Hunter, Wigham and Richardson and two on the Clyde by the Faufield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company. The first of the new vessels, tho Zelandic, is expected to load in New Zealand in April, the others following as soon as they are completed. Their names will be: Canbernc, Karamea and Taranaki. The compliment paid to tho Dominion -s discernible in the naming of the first vessel, but to coin Canberric was an ingenious recognition of respect for the Australian commonwealth. The new vessels will each have an insulated capacity for the carriage of refrigerated cargo of 400,000 cubic feet, together with ample space for the accommodation of wool, pelts, skins, hides and other general cargo of that description. Each vessel will have the latest and most modern appliances for the handling and carriage of frozen meat, butter and cheese, and fruit. It is estimated that the speed of the new motor vessels will be about 14J knots per hour, making the passage from Now Zealand to London one of approximately 33 days. Passenger and cargo vessels flying the Shaw, Savill white star flag already in this trade will not, so far as can be ascertained, be reduced in number by the advent of the four new motor Some time agq, the company disposed of its well-known steamers Karamea, Waiwera and Kumara.
