Last year th ( > birth-rate was only 17.8 per 1000 in England and Wales—the Inv est in Europe, save the Swedish and actually 1 per 1000 below the French. In 1920 some 957.000 children were born in England and Wales. In 1026, from a larger number of parents of suitable age, only 694,897 wore bom. The drop in siv years is one of 263,097 births, or of o’-er 27 per cent. It is impossible to gr.ess how low another six rears will bring the figure
