The Attorney-general announced that as the result of co-operation between the State and the Federal Governments Mr Justice Campbell, of the Supreme Court, has been appointed to preside over the inquiry into the Tahiti-Greycliffe collision, opening to-day It has been arranged that the chief and second officers of the Tahiti will return from Wellington bv the Maunganui, arriving on Tuesday. INQUEST ON THE VICTIMS. ADJOURNED TILL WEDNESDAY. SYDNEY, November 9. (Received Nov. 10, at 0.30 a.m.) The inquiry was opened, but was adjourned until Wednesday next without hearing evidence, to allow counsel for the different interested parties to prepare their cases. A DOCTOR’S OPINION. EVERY VICTIM DROWNED. SYDNEY, November 9. (Received Nov. 10, at 0.30 a.m.) At the inquest, Dr Palmer, Government medical officer, said that in his opinion drowning was the cause of almost every death. Ex-Detective Comyn, who was a Passenger on another ferry, from which he witnessed the accident, said that when he first sighted the Greycliff© she was about four lengths ahead of the Tahiti, and appeared to be bearing in towards the larger ship. The Greycliffe appeared to b- drawn in towards the Tahiti, although the ferry apparently had not altered her course. He then heard one short blast fzom the Tahiti, and the latter appeared to push the Greycliffe over, striking her twice—forward and amidships.
