INNOCENT MAN’S ORDEAL.
ARRESTED BY MISTAKE. To be put in the dock in place of another man for whom he had been mistaken was tho unpleasant experience of Mr Herbert Nicholas Bicnard, schoolmaster, of Highbury As he left homo to go to work recently a detective stopped him and said he was believed to bo a man whom the police wanted A man with tho detective then definitely identified him as the “ wanted ” individual. Mr Bichard readily accompanied the detective to tho police station whore ho pointed out he was not the man who was being sought. Police inquiries sooif established that his statement was correct. ‘‘ I was treated with extreme courtesy by the police, and suffered no indignity,” declared Mr Bichard afterwards. “ The mistake was not made by the police, but by tho man who stated I was somebody else. I treated (ho whole thing as a joke.” Subsequently a man was arrested on the charge over which the mistake arose.
