OTAGO YACHT ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Association was held last evening. Mr J. T. Paul presided, and the following delegates were present;—Messrs G. F. Bewley, F. Goodwin, T, Brookes, T., Anderson, F. Boswell, H. Camp, A. D. Asher, W. 0. Martin, and E. T. Mollcr. It was reported that the new Bona boat being built at Ravensbourne was now ready for the measurers.—lt was decided that Messrs Camp and C, Smith measure the boat this evening before the moulds are removed. The Secretary of the Broad Bay Club wrote stating that it had been decided to hold the race for the Oliphant Cup cn Saturday, January 7, the competitors to sail twice round the Broad Bay course The Canterbury Yachting Association wrote stating that the Stewart Island Yachting Club had agreed to conduct the Sanders Cup contest next year. The North-East Harbour Club wrote asking for the right to hold the speedboat championship of Otago in connection with the annual regatta on Boxing Day. The request was agreed to, A letter was received from ' the road Bay Boating Club asking that the a/te for the outboard motor-boat championship should be held on the occasion of the Broad Bay regatta on January 2.—Mr Martin said that the idea was to hold the championship race under the auspices of a different club each year. —It was decided to agree to the Broad Bay Club’s equest. The North-East Harbour Boating Cjub wrote stating that the Takapuna mats Colleen and Betty had been nominated to compete in the Cornwell Cup trials, A communication was received s ro;n C. M. French stating that the 14-footer Kia Ora would compete in the series of races tq bo sailed this year to select (dago’s challenger for the Sanders Cup. There was some discussion on the question of boats being compelled to carry the proper class colours when competing in regattas only. It was contended by seve ral delegates that the rule should be strictly enforced.—Mr Asher said the trouble seemed to be that regatta commit tees had been very lax in the past, and the system had not been strictly carried out.—Mr Bewley said what was .vented was a uniform class colour.—Mr Moller said that many boats frequently earned no class colours, and if the system nns enforced, there would probably be aisoantent among boat owners.—The diainian said that if a regatta committee disqualified a boat for not carrying a class eol< ur then the association would have to uphold the action of that committee.—lt was decided to write to the various duns with a request that three delegates should be appointed to attend a conference to consider the question of class colours, motor-boat classification, and any other amtters affecting regatta programmes.
