ROWING.

OTAGO ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Otago Rowing Association executive was held last evening. Mr E. V. Fairburn presided. The Oamaru Boating Club notified that Messrs J. W. Smeaton, H. E. Lyon, and P. J. Priest had been appointed the club’s delegates to the association. Mr Charles Statham wrote stating that owing to his parliamentary duties he was unable to accept the position of delegate to the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association. The Queen’s Drive Boating Club wrote asking for a contribution of £lO towards the expense of improving the boatshed. It was pointed out that the improvements would be necessary if the eight-oared boat now in storage at Port Chalmers, was to bo housed there.—Mr W. J. Wilson explained the nature of the improvements to be made. The improvements would cost between £SO and £6O, and as the housing of the boat was an association matter, he thought that the request should be granted.—Mr J- W. Smeaton expressed the same opinion.—The Chairman said that the Queen’s Drive Club deserved the thanks of the association for its action in making provision to house the boat, 'the action showed that the club was doing a great deal to foster eight-oared rowing in the harbour, and it was entitled to receive some assistance from the association.—lt was decided to make a grant of £lO. The North End Boating Club applied for the use of the association’s eight-oared boat for its opening day. It was pointed out that the boat could be launched and housed at the boatshed without any difficulty.—The request was granted, subject to the personnel of the boat and the launching meeting with the approval of the association. The question of the use of eight-oared boats by the various clubs was discussed at some length. It was then decided that the secretary should write to the Wellington and Christchurch Associations asking for a copy of the rules, so that the Otago Association could bo guided in drafting rules to govern the use of the eight-oared boats in the harbour. The rules, when considered by the Emergency Committee, will he placed before the association at its next meeting.
