BRITISH PHARMACOPŒIA.

TRANSLATED INTO CHINESE. The translation into Chinese of the British Pharmacopreia, undertaken under the joint auspices of the London Chamber of Commerce and the British Chamber of Commerce, Shanghai, has been completed, and the work has just been published. The primary object in view in undertaking a task so stupendous and so difficult was to familiarise the Chinese medical practitioners and students of medicine and pharmacy with official British pharmaceutical preparations. Dr C. L. Kao, a Chinese gentleman possessing the requisite qualifications of being a medical practitioner fully acquainted with the means of the many highly technical, botanical, and pharmaceutical terms and an able Chinese scholar, commenced the translation in 1924, and hy the early spring of 192.1 had sufficiently advanced for tlue authorities of Shantung Christian University, under Dr SPA 11, to commence the work of revision, with the object of assuring accuracy from a practical rather than a scholastic aspect. Though the translation is called abridged, it is in effect practically a complete translation, as it was found impracticable to delete many items, because such deletions as were suggested were found to contain ingredients in preparations it was highly desirable to retain.
