MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Thursday, October 6. (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) DEFAULT CASES. Judgment for the plaintiff was given in the following cases: —William Stewart and Co. v. George Porteous (Makarewa), claim £27 4s for goods supplied, with costs (£4 3s 6d); John Edward Butler, Ltd. v W. J. Martyn (Rangiora), claim £l4 5s 6d, the amount due on a promissory note, with costs (£2 14s); J. Crombie and Co v. J Brady, claim £8 10s for goods supplied, with costs (£1 11a 6d); John M'Lennan v. Joseph Stokes (Cromwell), claim £6 for hire of gramophone, with costs (£1 10s 6d); E. M. Petrie v. J. Whelan, claim £l9 10s for board and lodging, with costs (£2 14s); Bristol Piano Company, Ltd., v. J. B. M'Connell, claim £6B for arrears on hire of piano, with costs (£4 14s). JUDGMENT SUMMONSES. Allen Brock Campbell (Mr D. J Simpson), proceeded against George Smith ;Mr J. P. Ward) on a judgment summons for the recovery of £SO 17s lid, the amount due for rent of a tenement owned by the plaintiff, and costs (£1 17s).—After hearing the defendant’s evidence, the Magistrate said he did not see how, in the circumstances, he could make an order for the immediate payment of the amount, but he would vary the judgment to be payable at the rate of 5s per week. R. Stewart was proceeded against by the D.1.C., Ltd., for the recovery of costs (6s). —The, defendant was ordered to pay tho amount forthwith, in default 24 hours’ imprisonment. In the case in which G. Cobb (Te Kuiti) claimed from C. Sohlaadt £7 12s 6d and costs (12s), on a judgment summons, no order was made, the Magistrate stating that ho could not see, in view of the defendant’s circumstances, how ho could pay. v
