ST. KILDA COUNCIL.

The fortnightly meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council was hold last evening; present —the Mayor (Mr R.W. Hall), Cis Fleming, Conn, M’Curdy. Leary, Beattie, Roy, Telford, Stratton, Gillam, and Longworth. , , . Mr H. L. Tnpley, M.P., wrote thanking the Mayor, Mayoress, and the people ot St. Kilda for their expressions of sympathy in connection with the loss he had sustained through the death of his wife.— Received. . , , r The Prime Minister and Mr i. K. Sidey, M.P., wrote expressing their thanks for the good wishes of the council in connection with the passing of the Summer Time Bill. —Received. The Secretary of the Otago Expansion League forwarded a copy of the league’s annual report and extended an invitation for a representative of the council to be present at the annual meeting.—Received, one councillor to attend. The Principal and Secretary of the King Edward Technical College wrote intimating the retirement from the Board of Managers of Mr H. L. Tayley, M.P., and requested to be notified of the name of the council’s representative to attend a meeting to be hold on September 14. —Received, Cr Conn to attend. The Secretary of the Returned Soldiers’ Association wrote intimating that the association had voted a further £3O in connection with unemployment, on the understanding that the council would subsidise the sum £ for £. —Received. It was decided to meet a sub-committee of the Forbury Park Trotting Club regarding the proposed widening of Victoria road next council night. The Foreman of Works reported on the work done during the past fortnight, and stated that during the coming fortnight the following works would be taken in hand:—Kcrbing and channelling New street between Eskvale and Begg streets, and Jackson street between Dalgety and Moreau streets. Pretoria avenue would be finished this week to Victoria road. Forbury crescent to Forbury would be started. Blinding metal would be done at Ings avenue and East avenue. Metal would bo placed ou Richardson and Jackson streets. Parts of Moreau street would be built up, and patching done to the footpath in Richardson street; also patching footpaths in Grove and Caklor streets. Weather permitting, tar spraying would be carried out. —Adopted. It was decided that the gang working in New street next proceed to Princes street to take levels. Cr M'Curdy drew attention to the condition of Bay View road.

Cr Roy moved that the Drainage Board bo asked to inspect the drainage at the east end of Princes and Norraanby streets. —Cr Longworth expressed the opinion that the trouble was due to surface water. —The motion w r as carried.
