(Received August 30, at 7 p.m.) Mr Andrew Thompson, director of the Apia Observatory, is representing New Zealand at .the international conference of geophysics 1 at The Hague, commencing on September 3. The objects of the conference include arriving at an understanding as to the international use of a scientific instrument for recording earthquakes. Mr Thompson, who carries out experiments relating to the wind’s height and velocity at Samoa, which are likely to be useful to transpacific flyers, is hopeful for valuable results from the conference, particularly in the matter of co-operation with European observatories.—A. and N.Z.
