W.E.A.
VACATION. t The winter W.E.A. classes will soon bo over. A stocktaking for the year and a general meeting will follow, and then students will receive their holidays. It says much for the W.E.A., however, that students*do not want a holiday. Already they are demanding to know how to fill in their vacation. Last year the Botany Class continued its meetings and excursions under the tutorship of Mr Martin. Many jpinod in the regular Saturday afternoon excursions, which were organised by Mr Tucky. who is already making plans for a week-end trip to Mount Cook for Labour Day It is probable, too, that Mr Ross, during October, will deliver a special series of lectures on world history, entitled “ England and the World.” PHILOSOPHY FOR THE PEOPLE. To complete his very successful class in philosophy, Archdeacon Whitehead is beginning next Thursday a scries of lectures on the Italian philosophers. Philosophy, undw the guidance of Archdeacon Whitehead, becomes a fascinating study, easily undc’rsfandable by the layman, and provocative for the student. DRAMA CLASS. Tho experiment attempted last Saturday proved very successful. All present took part in the reading, and some latent talent was discovered “The Little Man,” by John Galsworthy, was read, first b.V all students in rotation, then by a special caste. The tutor had prepared a series of questions to provide a lead for the discussion. which was both varied and interesting. There is little doubt that this method of''studying plays helps to a belter understanding and criticism of the author. OAMARU CLASS. At tho last meeting of the Oamaru Sociologv Class. Mr Yates, an ex-president of the Wellington W.E.A., was present as a visitor, and said a few words on the work of the association. He emphasised the value of tho movement in New Zealand intellectual life, and stressed tho necessity for freedom of discussion at all meetings.
