INDUSTRIES AND COMMERCE.

THE PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE. QUESTION OF APPOINTMENTS. (From Ode Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, July 20. In tho House of Representatives this afternoon Mr T. M. Wilford (Hutt) drew attention to the fact that the Government had not yet set up the Industries and Commerce Committee. He said it was well, known that the trouble had occurred rhrcntgh the position of the member for Waitomata, Mr A. Harris. Mr A. D. M'Leod {Minister of Industries and Commerce) said there was no hurry about setting up this particular committee.

Mr Wilford: It is an important committee, and it is not set up because of some personal feud in regard to Mr Harris, Who had been left off that committee.

Mr j. A. Lee (Auckland East): It is the tail wagging the dog. Mr Wilford suggested that the Minister should explain why the Government funked setting up tins committee. Mr Speaker said the word “funked” was not in order, and called upon Mr Wilford to withdraw.

Mr Wilford withdrew the word, and said the Government was afraid.

Again Mr Speaker intervened and once more Mr Wilford had to withdraw the word. He subsituted the words “baulked at sotting up the committee.” He got away with that.
