MAGISTRATE SOLVES DIFFICULTY CHARITY IN LIEU OF FINE.
(Peb United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 20. Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., adopted a 'ovel method of meeting a difficult ease in the Police Court, when ’ihomas George Maxted came up for sentence'on a charge of stealing a trotting sulky, which ho had removed from the trotting course- where it had been left by the owner for sonic time. Maxted is a farrier, and a conviction would prevent him from going on the course and would involve the loss of bis livelihood. The owner of the sulky was a good deal (o blame for leaving it so Jong on the course, said Mr Hunt. Ho proposed to make Maxted lose something to remember Ihe mailer by.
