CRIME IN AUCKLAND.
STRENGTHENED DETECTIVE FORCE. FIVE TRANSFERS ANNOUNCED, (Speci .l to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, May 17. The Commissioner of Police (Mr \V. B. MTlveney) stated to-day that owing to the increase of crime in Auckland and the need for additional experienced detectives to be placed on that city’s staff, he is transferring the following officer* to Auckland:—Detective Sergeant Bickerdike (Christchurch), Detective Allen (Christchurch), Detective Sinclair (Wellington). Detective Hunt (Wellington), and Detective Roycroft (Dunedin). "Those transfers,” said Mr MTlveney, “will be carried out immediately. The present wave of crime in Auckland City. will be coped with. I am determined that crime in that city shall decrease instead of increase.”
