YOUNG MAORI PARTY.
ENTHUSIASM AT WANGANUI. A BRANCH FORMED. (Special to Daily Times.) WANGANUI. May 3. Further meetings of Maoris here have been held at Arohanui with regard to the operations of a West Coast branch of the Young Maori Party, and, as a result, the branch has been definitely formed, the foundation metabers being Messrs Rang! Marumaru, W. Tann and Rangi Pohika. A further interesting result of the week-end meeting is the formation of a Wanganui Maori Ethnological Society, the foundation members being those named above. In' thds connection it may be noted that Mr Tauri is a member of the Polynesian Society. The discussions have already proved of much interest to those who have taken part .*i them, and' the earnest thoughts which b v been given expression to are now beginmi t to bear fruit. The operations of the societywill relate, of course, more particularly tc the Wanganui River. The youpg Maori people are remarkably keen in the matter, and it has gladdened the hearts of the older Maoris to find a renewal c f interest in those things which pertain so closely to the Maori race. If only for these considerations tjie inauguration of the Arohanui Pa, and the recent gathering there, have, indeed proved of groat value from all points of view.
