OPENING OF PARLIAMENT. PREPARATIONS UNDER WAY. REHEARSAL PARADES OF DEFENCE FORCES. (Freu Association—Bj Telegraph—CopyrlgLt.) SYDNEY, May 5. (Received May 3, at 11.15 p.m.) Canberra, the capital of the Commonwealth, for many weeks past has been a scene of bustle, putting the finishing touches on the preparations for the opening ceremony on Monday next. The embryo city will take the status of the Federal Capital, when Parliament is opened, and already the Speaker of the Federal House and a large number of officers of the Federal public service are in residence.

Troops and pejice from all the States of the Commonwealth are in camp. There have been several rehearsal parades of every arm in the Commonwealth defence forces in order to avoid any hitch when inspected by the Royal visitors.

The sit© of the Anglican Cathedral is marked by a cross 20ft high, -which will bo dedicated on Sunday, and on Monday the Apostolic delegate to Australia will celebrate Mass at the Roman Catholic site. All accommodation in the surrounding districts is already fully taken up, and a large number of visitors will be compelled to live under canvas. The Government is providing tents and all facilities at nominal rentals. It is estimated that two million people will listen-in to a wireess broadcast report of the ceremonies on Monday.
