The Kamo sailed last evening for Oamaru, Tim am, and Lyttelton to complete loading for Wellington, Napier, and Gisborne. Th© Somerset, which is loading fruit and meat at Port Chalmers, Is expected to sail at 4 p.m. to-day for Wellington. The Holmdale is due this morning from Wellington to discharge and load general cargo. Sho Is timed to sail late to-night tor Oamaru, Tlmaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. The Port Denison Is to sail this morning for Lyttelton to commence loading for London. , , „ , The Port Hacking loft Lyttelton last Friday night for London, via Panama. The Kahlka Is to load at Westport to-day for Wellington. The Waikoualtl is to leave Newcastle tomorrow and Sydney on Friday with timber and general cargo for discharge at Bluff, Dunedin, Lyttelton, and Tlmaru. The Waikawa Is to leave Wellington today for Lyttelton and Dunedin to discharge the balance of her hardwood cargo from Bunhury. She la due here about Saturday. The Wlngatul ■ls to leave Auckland tomorrow with general cargo for discharge at Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff. The Progress has been fixed to load at Dunedin on Saturday for Tlmaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, New Plymouth, and Port Waikato, In place of the John. The Hertford Is due at Port Chalmers this morning from Tlmaru to load frozen meat and general cargo for England. She. Is to sail to-morrow for Napier to continue loading. The auxiliary four-masted schooner, Margaret W., previously known as the Margot, left Newcastle on Thursday last for Kopu. The vessel is commanded by Captain Watchlin, of Auckland. The Union Company’s steamer Kurow, which loaded 350,000 feet of timber at Port Craig, was delayed by bad weather. At one stage the vessel had- to leave Port Graig and seek shelter at Stewart Island. She was scheduled to sail on Sunday for Tunaru, Wellington, Picton, and Auckland.
NORFOLK TO LOAD. Tbs steamer Norfolk is due at PorWOhal'mors early this morning from Adelaide to commence loading for New York, Boston, London, and West of England ports. The vessel will eail towards the end of the week for Timaru and other northern porta to complete loading. SUSSEX PROM EASTERN POETS. The Sussex is due at Auckland about May 13 from Calcutta, via Penang, Java porta, and Townsville. Her Eastern cargo will be discharged' at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. The vessel is expected at this port about May 28. MATAROA AT AUCKLAND. The Mataroa arrived at Auckland yesterday morning from London and Southampton, via Panama, with passengers and cargo. Her freight will be discharged at Auckland and Wellington.. Captain W. A. R. Kershaw retains command of the Mataroa. CARGO PROM AUSTRALIA. Ths Kaituna was expected to clear Adelaide on Priday for Melbourne to continue loading for New- Zealand ports. The vessel was to clear Melbourne oh Monday for Hobart to complete loading. She will discharge at Bluff, . Dunedin, Lyttelton, Wellington, New Plymouth, and Auckland. AUSTRALIND PROM NEW YORK. The Australind is due at Auckland about May 12 from New York,* via Panama. She is bringing American cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Wanganui. FIAKO LEAVES PANAMA. . The Piako arrived at Panama on April 24 from Wellington and'sailed again on April 25 for New York, Boston, and West Coast ports of Great Britain. The vessel left Wellington on March 30. KARETU FROM SYDNEY. The Karetu, from Newcastle and Sydney, via Lyttelton and Timaru, is due at Dunedin this morning to discharge a largo quantity of general cargo. Her freight includes transhipments ex the Tango. Maru, Taiping, Malabar, Ycsaki Maru, Hagen, City of Melbourne, Mooltan, Citta di Genova, Orama, Comorin, Arsndskerk, Tianaren, Borda, Sheafmount, and Moreton Bay : also a quantity of timber and poles. Striking figures showing tho steady increase in the number of British-owned motor vessels are given in the current issue of the Bo*rd of Trade Journal. At the end of 1925 there were on the registers 1965 vessels, an increase compared with the previous year of 7.79 per cent. A largo increase in tonnage and a comparatively small increase m the number of vessels is accounted for by the relatively rapid development of oceangoing vessels having propelling machinery operated by explosion motors. The following is a complete description of the twin-screw tug Kahanui, built by the Dublin Dockyard Company (proprietors, Messrs Vickers, Ireland, Ltd.), to the order ef the Wanganui Harbour Board: Length 110 ft. breadth 24ft, depth 12ft, draught (loaded) forward Oft, aft lift; gross tonnage 207, net tonnage 70, total l.h.p. 800, working speed 11 J. The hull is divided into five compartments by four watertight bulkheads extending to ths main deck, the engines, boilers, and coal bunkers carrying the middle compartment The coal bunkers have a capacity of 80 tone, and are arranged! -between the engine and boiler rooms, with wing extensions at the side of ths latter. Double-bottom tanka are arranged under the engine-room and under the officers’ qnar tera forward, the former having a capacity of 15J tons of feed water and tbs latter cf eight tons of fresh water for domestic purposes. The forward and after peak tanks may be used for water ballast or fresh water for feed purposes, and have capacities of 0| and 25 tons respectively. The pumps of the Kahanui consist of one 151 n centrifugal salvage pump, having a capacity of 3500 gallons per minute, <ce patent submersible electrical-driven salvage pump capable of delivering 1100 gallons per minute and one direct-acting steam fire pump with a capacity of 1000 gallons per mfnuts.
