CONSTABLE ASSAULTED.

DISPUTE ON TRAM CAR. MAGISTRATE’S SERIOUS VIEW. {Peb United Peesb Association.! AUCKLAND, May 3. In the Police Court, Jamee Peter Carter denied having assaulted Constable Wakelin while the latter was engaged in the execution of his duty. Constable Wakelin said that the accused was pushing his way off a crowded tramcar when witness remonstrated. Carter made a more determined push wheu again warned, and struck witness on the face. It was admitted that Carter was deaf, and that afterwards he apologised. Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., said that if the constable had been in uniform he would have sent the accused to gaol for a fortnight. He would be fined £3 or 14 days’ imprisonment.
