WAR GRAVES FILM

BEAUTY OF THE CEMETERIES. In order to give returned soldiers and tho relatives of men who fell in tho Great War an idea of what has been done in the direction of attending to war graves the New Zealand Red Cross Society is exhibiting throughout tho Dominion a film which shows a number of the cemeteries in France, and which is supplemented by several slides taken from photographs of the cemeteries at Gallipoli. The film describes the visit of the St. Barnabas pilgrims to the cemeteries in Franco, and lakes the form of an appeal for funds to send relatives of the fallen men to sec tho graves of their sons and brothers. It is not being- shown hero for that purpose, however, but merely to give an idea <r the beauty and extent of the cemeteries. The film was screened privately at the Empire Theatre yesterday morning, and will be shown there to-morrow to returned soldiers and to next of kin of the men who gave their lives. Though the screening occupies less than 25 minutes it i; ficientlv long to show how much has been done in the care of the graves of the fallen men, and it is certain that these who take tho opportunity of viewing it will leave satisfied that ’those who have been entrusted with the work of establishing the cemeteries have done it well. The cemeteries. each with its centra] monument and surrounding rows of white headstones, pre. sent scenes’of rare and sombre beauty.
