THE STEAMER TASMAN
ASHORE ON CLARKE ISLAND, . (Treat Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.) SYDNEY, May 2. The steamer Tasman, which ran ashore on a submerged extension of Clarke - Island, in Torres Strait, has on board 26 passengers and a crew of 100. The vessel lies on a soft coral bed, and is in no immediate danger. It is reported that an unattended light on Clarke Island had been extinguished for a week, and warnings to shipping had been issued by the Queensland Navigation Department. The Tasman is a steel screw vessel ot 5014 tons gross, fitted for oil fuel, and with refrigerating machinery. She was built in 1921 by Earle’s Company (Ltd.), Hull, for the Royal Packet Navigation Company. STILL ON THE REEF. SYDNEY, May 2.
