PORT CURTIS DUB TO-MORROW. • Messrs J. W. Swift and Co. advise that the Port Curtis Is to leave Lyttelton to-day for Dunedin, where she should arrive tomorrow morning to discharge a large quantity of general cargo from London. SYDNBY-DUNEDIN CARGO SERVICE. The Karetu Is due at Dunedin to-morrow from Sydney, via Lyttelton and Timaru, to discharge a quantity of general cargo. She will sail about Thursday for Bluff and S. nC The Walkoua'lti has been fixed to load at Sydney towards the end of this week for Bluff, Dunedin, Lyttelton, and Timaru. NEW OIL STEAMER. Messrs Llthgows (Ltd.). Port Glasgow, have received from the Vacuum Oil Company (Ltd.), London, an order for an oil tanker similar to the Plume and the Pulpit Point, built for the same owners last year. DOCK PUMPING. The new electric plant for pumping out the Harbour Board's docks at Port Chalmers Is not doing the work of the steam plant It superseded. The electric power docs about 75 per cent, of the amount of pumping done by steam power In a given time. Both units are said to be of equal horsepower. The steam power Is still available when vessels require a quick despatch. When a vessel is docked the sooner the water Is pumped out of the dock the more quickly can the mechanics proceed with the work on the hull below the waterline. BLUFF HARBOUR REVENUE. A comparative statement of the revenue received for the 12 months ended December 31, 1026. was submitted at last Thursday’s meeting of the Bluff Harbour Board. The figures showed a falling-off of about £3700 for the year, but it is considered that this was duo to the coal strike in England. The total revenue received during the past three years was as follows; —1924, £39,844 3s 7d; 1925, £42,456 14s 3d; 1926, £39,000.

WIRELESS FROM ARAWA. A wireless message received by the Shaw, Savlll, and Albion Company from the captain ot the Arawa states that the vessel will arrive at Auckland on Sunday next from Liverpool. The Arawa la bringing general cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. She should arrive at this port about May 24. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE. Radio: City of Khois, Kaikoral. Chatham Islands; Port Victor, Port Hacking, Arawa, Queen Eleanor. H.M.S. DIOMEDE’S CRUISE. H.M.S. Diomede, acting flagship ot the New Zealand Naval Squadron, returned to Auckland last Wednesday morning from FIJI. The warship left Auckland on March 31, and arrived at Suva on April 4. Thence she proceeded to Vila, with members of the commission appointed to Inquire into labour troubles In the New Hebrides. She sailed from Vila again on April 18, and returned to Suva, arriving there on April 21. Final departure was taken from Suva on Saturday morning last. Fair weather was experienced throughout the trip, which was uneventful. The Diomede Is expected fe remain In port for about five weeks before going Into the Haurakl Gulf for gunnery and torpedo practice. TOURISTS’ THIRD CABIN LINER. Notice has been received by the White Star Line that the British Government Is prepared to release the steamship Minnesota (ex Zeeland) from service as a transport at the expiration of her present voyage, which Is to China with troops. The Minnesota’s first schedule sailing from New York Is on May 14, for London, as a tourist third cabin liner, under the Atlantic Transport Line, and associated company ot the White Star Line. As the Zeeland she was we'l known to the public as a cabin carrier. Under her new name she will serve as a team mate ot the Mlnnekahda, at present tho only ship out of New York carrying tourist third cabin passengers exclusively. TRANSPACIFIC CARGO SERVICE. The Union Company announces the following movements of vessels engaged In tho transpacific cargo service : Haurakl, which left Fanning Island on April 19 for Vancouver and San Francisco, arrived at Vancouver on April 29. Waltemata left Sydney on April 22 for Suva, Vancouver, and San Francisco. She Is due at Vancouver on May 27. Walhemo left Pago Pago on April 28 for Vancouver, where she Is due on May 18. Walruna left San Francisco on April 14 for Papeete, Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne, and Sydney. She was due at Papeete on Sunday. Walotapu left San Francisco on April 24 tor Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Melbourne, and Sydney. She Is due at Auckland on May 29. The forward loading dates at the. Pacific Coast are approximately as follow: Haurakl will load- at Vancouver and Ran Francisco early in May for Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Sydney. Walhemo will load at Vancouver and San Francisco during May for Apia, Lyttelton, Tlmaru, Dunedin. Bluff, and New Plymouth. Waltemata will load at Vancouver and San Francisco in June tor Auckland, Melbourne, and Sydney. Walruna will load at Vancouver and San Francisco In July for Auckland (possibly Wellington), Melbourne, and Sydney.
