MACANDREW’S BAY CARNIVAL 1

Considerable interest was taken in the crowning ceremony on Saturday evening of the Queen Carnival, which was promoted recently by the residents of Macandrew’s Bay. The building was filled to capacity with an enthusiastic audience. The hall and stage were decorated for the occasion, and credit for this is due to Mr J. Niven and his assistants. Those taking part in the ceremony comprised Miss Maggie Brown (Queen ’ 'argaret), Miss K. Riddell) (Princess Koa), Miss Betty Riddell (train bearer). Misses Niven and Brickell (pages), Miss Rowlands (Colindell standard bearer), Miss Vivian (Wharf dale standard bearer), M’sses D. Brown, B. Brown, Hinklcy, Howie, and Budd (attendants), Mr T. C. Brickell (lord high chancellor), Messrs R. Free, P. Lambeth, J. Niven, J. Hook, H. Riddell, and H. R. Lambeth (military guard), Mr Hutton (queen’s trumpeter), and Mr H. P. Desmoulins (court jester). The party proceeded up the centre of the hall to the throne to tho strains of orchestral music, and throughout the cremony each member carried out the part allotted in a fitting manner. The lord high chancellor delivered the proclamation in humorous, yet courtly, vein, after which he performed the crowning in a solemn manner, at the same time avowing the allegiance of all her Bay subjects to good “Queen Margaret,” A short musical programme was given by the court jester, Miss Stevens, Miss Perry (songs), and Messrs E. Brown and party, the accompaniments being played by Mrs Desmoulins and Miss Benton. At the conclusion of the ceremony Mr E. A. Gibson, chairman of the Ratepayers Association, thanked all those who had helped in any way to make the queen carnival and the crowning eremony such successful functions. The organising of the ceremony was entrusted to Mr T. G. Brickell, who was the recipient of congratulations on the excellent results attained as the outcome of his efforts in this direction. The ceremony was followed by a dance, which was indulged in by a large gathering to music supplied by East’s Orchestra.
